About venue

Its origins date back to 1057. When Prince Spytihněv II founded the collegiate chapter at the Church of St Stephen around 1057, the church was probably already built of stone, as the foundation charter refers to it as a basilica. The Romanesque church was later rebuilt in the Gothic style in the 14th century and demolished in 1662–64. The present cathedral was built in the early Baroque style between 1664 and 1668 by a builder of Italian origin. Domenico Orsi also took part in the construction, and Giulio Broggio probably did as well.
