The cave was named after J. von Bertalan, director of the German Theatre in Brno, who fell into it. He survived the four-metre fall and was carried out with bruises. Local newspapers vividly described the accident, and from then on the cave became known as Bertalánka. Further exploration revealed an extension of the cave; today it is 55 metres long. For safety, the entrance is fitted with a barrier to prevent access.
Since 2017, the cave has been open to visitors, but this is not a walk along illuminated concrete paths. Visitors receive equipment at the entrance – coveralls and headlamps – and make their way through the cave a little like speleologists.
