Femme Palette x Barclays: Women in Tech

čtvrtek 14. 4. 2022 od 17:30
WorkLounge Karlín, Praha

O akci

The technology sector can offer a lot of employment opportunities, it’s an industry that is growing with more and more tech positions that need to be filled. Tech careers can offer flexible working, more balance, professional status and better pay than other industries. However, a lack of understanding of the opportunities and what skills or qualifications you need, may be preventing women from joining.

Whilst women have made great strides in many industries, there is still a long way to go, especially in tech where women are dramatically underrepresented. There are many barriers holding women back in the tech sector, aside from gender issues, also a lack of role models, mentors and pay inequalities which have driven women out of the industry before they had a chance to fulfill their potential.

Listen to our speakers as they demystify the tech sector:

  • What’s their career journey into tech?

  • How did they overcome challenges as they climbed the tech career ladder?

  • What is techposter syndrome and how did it come about?

  • What are the different opportunities and where are they?

  • What qualifications or skills do you need to get started?

  • What one piece of advice would you give to women wanting to start out in tech?

Meet the speakers 💬

Aminah Sayed, EFS Python Developer at Barclays

Aminah joined Barclays in 2015 as an intern, working as IT support on a fast-paced trading floor. In 2018, she moved into software development, which remains her focus for now. In addition to day-to-day programming, she is currently managing a small team of other Python developers.

About Femme Palette 🎨

Since 2018, Femme Palette's main focus has been helping women grow in their careers. We created a community that currently counts 2,000 members from different parts of the world. In the past 3 years, we’ve organized for the community over 50 networking and educational events and helped members meet like-minded people. Over time, we started focusing more on a personal approach to career development, and that’s how the idea of a mentoring program was born. Currently, there are 500+ global mentors who are working with us and help (not only) women grow in their careers. We’re on a mission to help develop talents and give everyone the practical skills they need to thrive in their roles. We are also working with companies that want to support professional development of their employees through mentorship.
