Maryša
Sunday 1. December od 19:00Vesna, Brno
Maryša is a young woman who is pushed through life by everyone around her. She is forced to choose between honor and happiness, burning out and fading away, morality and love. Will she end up in a "life to drown for"?
The play was written in 1894 by the brothers Alois and Vilém Mrštík, who were inspired by real events in a village not far from Brno. It represents a foundational work of Czech realism long-known to Czechs, at least those who studied for the maturita at the end of secondary school. This will be its English-language premiere.
It is presented by Czech Theater, a multicultural amateur community theater bringing together people who have come to Brno from near and far (including at least 15 different nationalities in this production) to make Czech culture more accessible.
The play should last around 2:30 with an intermission.
You can also buy a paperback book with the text of the full play, translated into English for the first time. Buy now for a discount over the later price.
